Eight emerging community leaders from Charlotte, North Carolina and Akron, Ohio will join the 2018 Creative Interventionist Fellowship program, an initiative of the League of Creative Interventionists funded by the Knight Foundation. Now in its second year, the program identifies and catalyzes passionate neighborhood residents to discover their leadership and co-create what they want to see in their communities.

The Fellows are unique in their skills and experiences. There is a design thinker, community organizer, designer, entrepreneur and mother, non-profit administrator, preacher and writer, metalsmith and social justice creative. They are all artists and change makers passionate about their neighborhoods and ready to create.

Fellows receive a $10,000 stipend and local and national mentorship to reimagine their neighborhood with powerful acts of culture. Fellows and mentors from each city will come together for the annual Creative Interventionist Convening April 13-15 in Charlotte to work together to create strong foundations for their year long projects. These projects are guided by how they can best facilitate neighborhood perception change, create new social relationships, and generate leadership and job opportunities.

The Convening will include neighborhood tours, workshops designed to amplify projects, and presentations from local and national community leaders and artists. The Fellows will come away with a deeper understanding of how to execute their project as well as a strong network to support their journey.

This year’s Fellows are creating amazing projects that will yield new forms of artistic expression in public spaces while inviting their neighbors to reimagine what it means to be an active citizen and to become Creative Interventionists.

We invite you to get to know them below, follow their work and support them in making impact in and with their communities.
